Milton Bradley reportedly to join Cubs

The Chicago Cubs and free agent Milton Bradley reached a preliminary agreement Monday on a $30 million, three-year contract, according to a person familiar with the negotiations.

The deal is subject to a physical scheduled for Thursday, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been finalized.

One must wonder if the physical includes a psychiatric evaluation.

I don't like this deal anywhere near as much as I do the one for Burrell. This is an extra $2 million per year and for an extra year for an extremely injury prone player who's one of the biggest malcontents this side of Barry Bonds. Last year was also the only year where I think he outperformed Burrell, and even then he failed to play the entire season.

I guess it came down to that Bradley can theoretically play right, while Burrell is a left fielder at best. Though I like both at DH (Burrell because he's just a bad fielder and Bradley for injuries) much more.

I think the Cubs are kicking themselves for throwing $100 million at Soriano, and I think it was another $30 million at Fukudome. Next year they'll be kicking themselves for throwing another $30 million at Bradley. This kinda reminds me of the Angels, where they keep making one bad outfielding signing to cover up the last bad outfield signing.

I think this is a stupid, stupid move for my Cubs.  If this doesn't mean that every player is a ten million per year player, then what does?  Bradley does not make any list of the top 50 current players in the game at any position, and top 100 would be a significant stretch.  The Cubs haven't had three everyday outfielders on the roster at one time in what seems like forever, and an injury prone head case doesn't fill the bill either.  Practically every outfielder not named Soriano is a utility player on the Cubs.  The Cubs have improved their bullpen, their Central Division competition is weaker than ever, and I still think they will lose more games this year than in '08.  "Wait til next year!"

This is a good move for the Cubs they need another bat in the lineup. With Koske struggling in the second half last year this will be a welcome addition for the team. I know there are alot of people who think this is a bad move, but I didnt see anyone complaining when we got Rich Harden last year. Welcome to Chicago Milton.
